Great Book- Successful Results

I am a 2010 graduate and sat for my PE in April 2015. I have primarily worked in the consulting industry, so already had a good working knowledge of the NEC. My primary study and review tool was this book by Alexander Graffeo. I went through this book in it's entirety, working all sample problems, adding tabs to the book to make it easier to flip through. I also used several other practice exams, and took some other books, but didn't end up using the others much. Attached is a picture of my bubble crate I took to the test, with the black spiral bound book being this guide. Of course, this book did not cover everything on the test. There were many problems that I couldn't find help with in any of my reference materials, but this was the primary tool I used on the test as well. It was concise and well organized, and didn't leave me flipping endlessly through reference materials for the majority of the test. Of the 80 problems on the test, I felt fairly confident about approximately 3/4 of the problems, about 1/8 of the problems I could reduce the answers to give me a 50/50 shot, and the other 1/8 were almost entirely guesses. I left the test feeling fairly confident, but that 1/4 of the test left me feeling beat up and doubting myself. I never took Engineering Econ, so some of those questions were still difficult for me. Fast forward 6 weeks, and the results are in- I passed- so I just wanted to share my thoughts on this book, which attribute much of my success to!

I purchased this Guide in January in preparation for the April 2015 PE exam. In addition, I purchased the NCEES sample exam and I took the PPI class, which included the Camara's Power Reference Manual, practice problems, and sample exams. If you are already familiar with Power, then my advice is to use this Guide as your cornerstone reference along with the NCEES sample exam. Graffeo's Guide is concise and condensed, which will be a relief to you during the exam. Refer to other materials as needed when you want to take a deeper dive on a particular topic or have the time. (Of course, bring all your materials with you to the exam...why not, right?!) In general, I found the example problems in this Guide to be either (1) simple and straight forward enough to be a quick refresher on a topic or (2) relevant to exam questions. I feel I wasted a lot of my precious preparation time on some of Camara's long, convoluted problems - not representative of the 6 min or less per problem given on the actual exam.

Also, I should note that the Guide has been revised, so it does now address the 'missing' topics in the RJ Washington (1/6/2015) review. And I passed the PE.

David Millan Escriva

David Millan Escriva was eight years old when he wrote his first program on an 8086 PC with BASIC language, which enabled the 2D plotting of BASIC equations. He started with his computer development relationship and created many applications and games. In 2005, he completed his studies in IT from the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia with honors in human-computer interaction supported by Computer Vision with OpenCV (v0.96). He had a final project based on this subject and published it on HCI Spanish Congress. In 2014, he completed his Master's degree in artificial intelligence, computer graphics, and pattern recognition, focusing on pattern recognition and Computer Vision. He participated in Blender source code, an open source and 3D-software project, and worked in his first commercial movie, Plumiferos―Aventuras voladoras, as a computer graphics software developer. David now has more than 13 years of experience in IT, with more than nine years of experience in Computer Vision, computer graphics, and pattern recognition, working on different projects and start-ups, applying his knowledge of Computer Vision, optical character recognition, and augmented reality. He is the author of the DamilesBlog (http://blog.damiles.com), where he publishes research articles and tutorials on OpenCV, Computer Vision in general, and optical character recognition algorithms. As part of his Master's degree research, he used Kinect, OpenNI, and OpenCV to recognize Brazilian sign language gestures. He is currently working with medical imaging systems for his PhD thesis. He is the cofounder of a startup company called Blackmuppet. His fields of interest includes image processing, Computer Vision, design patterns, and multithreaded applications.

About the Author
Sophia Lubensky is professor emerita of Russian in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at SUNY (Albany). She is author of Nachalo, a basal Russian textbook with a video component (with Gerard Ervin et al.), Advanced Russian: From Reading to Speaking (with Irina Odintsova and Slava Paperno), and numerous articles on semantics, the Russian language, and translation.

Lubensky has done everyone a huge solid!!!

All I have to say is wow. As somebody who has studied Russian for upwards of ten years, I found myself at a plateau. I am able to say everything I need to and be understood, as well as understanding most of what I hear. I speak well, but there is still that not-quite-like-them barrier. This gem has done more to advance my Russian in one year than anything else the past five years combined. This has helped me better understand and use the cultural nuances of the language through idiomatic expression. This book goes far beyond idioms, as it provides everyday common sayings, all compiled in a single comprehensive volume. The price is hefty, but is worth every penny if you are serious about Russian, and especially if you feel like you have reached a stopping point in your language acquisition. Aside from having extreme practical use, this book is actually a lot of fun!!! And if my memory serves me correctly, that is why I began learning Russian in the first place. I would also recommend Stephen Marder's "Supplementary Russian-English Dictionary" as another great resource to use in conjunction with this book if you are looking to break past a plateau.

The best dictionary that I made aquanted with.

I like detailed multivariate vocabulary about idioms, proverbs and expressions that I know in Russian.
Before buying it I compared this Dictionary with several others. Quantity of analogues, comparisons etc. is much more than in any other one. Even if I cannot find some idiomatic expression I can combine it using other words in the same dictionary.

This little manual does consist of interesting bits of Hawaiian history, but so do all books purporting to be "guides" to the islands. It was billed as a "must read" for newcomers and locals alike. I bought it thinking it contained something new, but it did not. Please refer to the title of this review: ho hum.

A must read for those visting or moving to Maui

Of the various books I have read about Maui, Jill Engledow's is by far the most informative.She paints an excellent picture of the culture and history of Maui. You gain so much insight and understanding of the Island and it's people, she actually puts you there and provides such great insights that I have not found in the texts. Alas. don't leave home with out FIRST reading Maui 101.

Most books about exotic places are written by people who come from afar, do their homework, and go home to write about it. Nothing wrong with that. But an insider picks up the subtleties that others miss. Jill Engledow has lived on Maui most of her adult life and wrote for the Maui News for many years. She covered every aspect of island life and then some. This book is meant for people thinking about moving to Maui or who have just landed with all their earthly posessions looking for a new life. "Maui 101" contains all kinds of useful tips that will make settling on the Valley Isle much easier. Life is different in Hawaii, and it sure helps to have a detailed guide for new residents at your finger tips.

I have the audible book and it is amazing!!!! great narration check it out!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved Blue. She was funny and awkward. She was great. Her character really added to the story. I Know this is a book about her and her crazy life but not completely. It's a great book about all of them.

Have you listened to any of Madeline Mrozek’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have never listen to Madeline Mrozek's performances before. I was actually disappointed that she didn't have any more titles that were appealing. SHE IS AMAZING! This book benefited from a talented person like Madeline. The book was strong and original but the narration added the cherry and sprinkles to the top of the cake.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I am not good with tag lines. However, if it was made into a movie I would watch it!

The first story was hard to complete. I got better about 3/4 of the way. STICK WITH IT... you will be rewarded with a fantastic and original story. Loved this trilogy and really sad to say good bye.

Your timing in situations, Great! And you can convey the struggles of people and conversations without foul language. That is a "Plus" for me!!!. I am not a words person, but just want to thank you for yet another great series. Please don't stop writing! Ever!

Twomey is terrific!

Mary Twomey has, yet again, enthralled me with her storytelling! Do yourself a favor and start reading! Volumes of the Vemreaux has complex character development and a plot line that keeps you turning page after page. Read her Undraland series if you haven't done so already. I guarantee it will stay with you long after the last page has been read.
