About the Author
Eric H.H. Chang was born in Shanghai in a non-Christian home. In 1953 he came to know the Lord through a series of miracles, as recounted in How I Have Come to Know God. In 1956 the Lord opened a way for him to leave China. He completed his studies at the Bible Training Institute (Glasgow, Scotland), before moving on to London Bible College. He graduated from the University of London (King's College and School of Oriental and African Studies) where he read Arts and Divinity. The Lord then led him to minister to a church in Liverpool. While in Liverpool, he was ordained by his dear aged friend, the Reverend Andrew McBeath. Several years later, he was invited to minister in Montreal, Canada. The Lord blessed this ministry too, which has expanded from a small church into a fellowship of some two dozen churches. This book is a wonderful overview of true Christian monotheism from the point of view of one who had been steeped in Trinitarian thinking for decades. Upon comparing Chang's Biblical observations with a hand full of other well written studies, one can get a clear perspective on what it means to worship Yahweh as One. The Biblical view of Jesus' exalted status as Yahweh's "right-hand man* does not need to entail a 1700 year old tradition of identity theft. Biblically, Jesus is sufficiently honored and glorified without anachronistically projecting 4rth century metaphysical formulae onto first century Scriptural revelation. There are good reasons why words like Trinity and the associated concepts are not once used or described in the Bible. Jesus was careful in Luke 18: 19, replying to the rich young man, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone." Like Chang, I once used the prologue of John, some other verses in John, and a hand full of other verses as Trinitarian proof texts, so, like Chang, I have compassion on those who are led into such thinking. Nevertheless, the popular mainstream view fails to deal honestly with thousands of verses that portray Yahweh as One or the many verses deal with the Messiah's origin, temptations, and humanity. Wow! This is certainly a book worth reading. One God. Absolutely! Very well researched and presented. This should be read by all. Thankfully there is a wonderful writer, Chang, who dares put it all out there, in truth and simplicity. No Trinitarianism for me.

Dr. Moore help be to understand this plague of a disease that I have been struggling with for 45 years. I don't think I am crazy anymore and I have been able to accept myself as 'not crazy'. My little 'beasties' still attack me each day but now I can recognize them for what they are and they don't dominate my life as much.

Loved the story but would have liked it more if it had been a full story in one book, instead of being split up into six booklets, that kept reglossing over the storyline in the previous one. It took away from the story. I would have given it a solid 5 then. But all in all a great rwad

I liked this collection of books, I thought the story was interesting and in the collection it is steamy as hell. I didn't like how it was chopped up into this mini books. This would be better as one book. It lost a star because of the choppiness.

Bailey, basing his study on the most important published and unpublished sources available, strikes a balance between objective reporting and analysis. This book depicts a national calamity in which sincere people followed their convictions to often tragic ends.

The Cristero rebellion climaxed a century of animosity between the Catholic church and the Mexican state, and this background is briefly summarized here. With the coming of the 1910 revolution the hostility intensified. The revolutionists sought to impose severe limitations on the Church, and Catholic anti-revolutionary militancy grew apace. When the government in 1926 decreed strict enforcement of anticlerical legislation, matters reached a crisis. Church authorities suspended public worship throughout Mexico, and Catholics in various parts of the country rose up in arms. There followed almost three years of indecisive guerrilla warfare marked by brutal excesses on both sides. Bailey describes the armed struggle in broad outline but concentrates on the political and diplomatic maneuvering that ultimately decided the issue.

A de facto settlement was brought about in 1929, based on the government’s pledge to allow the Church to perform its spiritual offices under its own internal discipline. The pact was arranged mainly through the intercession of U.S. Ambassador Dwight Morrow. His role in the conflict, as well as that of other Americans who decisively influenced the course of events, receives detailed attention in the study. The position of the Vatican during the conflict and its role in the settlement are also examined in detail.

With the 1929 settlement the clergy returned to the churches, whereupon the Cristeros lost public support and the rebellion collapsed. The spirit of the settlement soon evaporated, more strife followed, and only after another decade did permanent religious peace come to Mexico.

Excellent Work -- A Primer on the Cristero Rebellion

Author Baily has done an excellent job of covering the Cristero Rebellion in Mexico from 1926 to 1929 without getting bogged down in the weedy details. In particular he covers the role of the U.S., aid from the American Knights of Columbo to the Cristeros, and the actions by American Ambassador Morrow in bringing about an agreement between the Vatican and the Jacobin Mexican government that ended the war. The text of the agreement from 1929 is included in this work.

This was the author's doctoral dissertation now published in book form, and concentrates mainly on the political actions taken by all of the parties. It adds material to Meyer's "The Cristero Rebellion", generally considered to be the definitive work on the subject. However, Bailey's book is an easier read, and gives a shorter yet thorough presentation of the historical factors leading to the rebellion. The Sorrow and the Shame

The history of Mexico is written in sorrow and blood. La Cristiada is a continuance of this sad tradition. Like the previous Mexican Revolution of 1911, it is very complex, with shifting sides, motivations wrapped in confusion, selfishness and betrayal. You really need a program to keep all the players straight. In writing Viva Cristo Rey! David Bailey has done a yeoman job of trying to tell this story with an admirable sense of coherence. This is a story of the continuing struggle for religious freedom, based upon saving the Catholic church, faith and freedom of worship. Originally, based upon the persecution of the church and murder and torture of it's priests, the revolutionaries sought help from the Church hierarchy and belatedly expanded their mission to encompass religious freedom as a basic cause in order to gain foreign support and money. It is a story of heroism, betrayal, self interest, ending in more tragedy and death for the Mexican people. It is also a story of the United States, it's fear of Catholicism, and seeking of self interest in a political, not moral sense.The revolutions timing in relation to what was happening in the US was critical, and the American influence and power plays had tremendous effect on the outcome. In that sense it is alsoa tale of American history . In the end, however La Cristiada did succeed in the greater goal of restoring their right to worship and put a halt to the ongoing persecution of religion by the revolutionary, atheistic forces of the ruling parties. But the cost was high and the true fighters were ultimately betrayed and exterminated.
This is an important story and one that should be told and retold. You may have to take notes, or read this more than once just to familiarize yourself with all the players and action. This is NOT a movie tie in. It does not center around the battlefield, although it is covered in it's place. This is a comprehensive telling of the entire story and a worthy history to be read and an important story to spread to those who need hearing it. Separation of church and state has to be balanced with the separation of State from Church as well.

Great content and format

This book was enlightening. I received it as a gift and thought it was going to be very technical making it challenging to read. To my delight, I found the book did not contain a lot of medical jargon. The layout of the book made it an easy read, and perfect for an ongoing reference. The information presented can improve the quality of life for anyone who reads and applies the information. I found the section on "Managing Everyday Stress" extremely helpful in identifying stressors, and then learning how to create a strategy that reduces it.

Eileen's writing style along with the valuable medical content makes this a must read.

The book breaks down CBT into easy-to-understand ideas that help to explain the often misunderstood jargon of psychology. This book is a must read for anyone who is considering CBT or for friends and family who want to understand how CBT works.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone out there. Although Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is regularly used for a number of issues (stress, anger, pain, fatigue, eating disorders, PTSD, insomnia, depression), it would benefit any person who would like to work on their world view. In short, CBT is a technique-driven method to change your attitude from a glass half-empty to a glass half-full point of view. Instead of years of therapy working on the past, CBT uses exercises and journal entries to change your viewpoint about the here and now. This book gives you all of the techniques you need to accomplish this, in an easy to follow format. It’s written using a clear, simple voice, walking you through each exercise step by step. There are a number of forms and charts at the end of the book to fill out as you go.
The first 2/3 of the book works on general CBT exercises that would work for almost any issue. The last third of the book goes into specifics on issues such as substance abuse, eating disorders, and OCD. Finally, the book ends with a discussion on when you should seek professional help beyond the scope of the book. It can be used by someone who wants to work on CBT alone, or it can be used alongside working with a therapist.
Some of the chapters that I found the most valuable for me were the chapters on mindfulness, changing negative self-talk, and anger management. Unless you live a perfect life in perfect happiness, you should get this book.
