'My old editions of this established book look very worn, as they have travelled far and wide. Two reasons for this are the content and the fact it is pocket size. This edition is slightly bigger, thicker and has a PVC cover. However, the expansion allows for a clearer layout, more durable paper and additional information, and it is still pocket size, an important factor.This book I feel would be an asset to any member both whilst working and playing. About the Author
Jim has more than 30 years experience of climbing, trekking and teaching wilderness medicine, first aid and leadership in the Himalayas. He was doctor on Chris Bonington's 1975 Expedition, which made the first ascent of Everest's Southwest face, and on the Australian first ascent of the North face of Everest in 1984. As well as expeditions to K2 and Changabang, Jim has climbed in the UK, Alps, Norway, NewZealand and North America.
Dr Peter Gormly was a mountaineer and orthopaedic surgeon who was involved in safety, first aid and health issues in Antarctica for many years.

Great pocket field guide

Great pocket field guide! This is the one book I carry with me when hiking or skiing as it is nice and compact and very informative without being excessive, plus you don't require a degree to understand it.

Medical Advice for a medical professional

This book is a very poor first aid book for the average wilderness adventurer, rather, it is written as if you have a grasp of medical terminilogy and practices. I was expecting something a little less tutorialish. for example, it details the different types of hypothermia and their associated causes and treatment, however, it also tells you to refer back to a figure from 5 chapters previous, tells you to use the treatment you read in another chapter, and uses alot of medical jargon, like the latin name for type 1 of hypothermia which I am sure would add thrills and chills to your story when you are back at the bar telling it for the 100th time, however, they conserved a ton of space by making you roam the book re-reading things but opt to put in useless information like the latin terms only doctors probably care to know, or can use as information, in some cases, it tells you to call in a medivac chopper as part of the treatment...so, if you have an injured person, and you have access to a medivac, why would you risk treating them unless you actually knew what you were doing and didn't need a little book to tell you what to do?

compact first aid book

Small compact, easy to understand. Great for hunting in the wildernnes or backpacking trips. I would recommend this book if you are planning any kind of wilderness trip.
